Job Postings

Hidden jobs are welcomed for sharing at  If the job your neighbor, friend or family shared with you is not right for you, it might be perfect for an August Group colleague.  This is a great place for practicing "give to get." With 1600 members, what can happen here when members own the content?

We welcome volunteers to coordinate the job postings on a weekly basis. Employers and members submit jobs that must be readied for inclusion in the newsletter.  A lack of help means fewer jobs get posted in a timely manner. Why not be the first one to see new postings??!!

Great business germinating? Get rewarded!
Contributed by Digital Rochester

Those of us from the land of George Eastman and Joseph Wilson know how the innovation of entrepreneurs can reinvent a regional economy - and Digital Rochester is fired up by what we're hearing from all of you entrepreneurs out there today! We want to see you rewarded for your innovation and energy, so we've joined the team that's organizing the 2009 Rochester Regional Business Plan Contest. We're excited to have joined forces with High Tech Rochester and the rest of the crew - GRE, RIT, U of R Simon School and Nazareth College - all that's missing now is YOU!

This year's contest features over $50,000 in cash and business service prizes - including a first place $25,000 cash prize! In addition, we're very excited that the culmination of the contest will be the first ever Celebration of Entrepreneurship Luncheon on May 15th. It will be a showcase of entrepreneurship across our region where we'll recognize the success that local entrepreneurs have worked so hard to achieve - in addition to the big announcement of the contest winner!

The contest is open to for-profit companies headquartered in the nine-county Greater Rochester area. Companies should have a scalable business concept with high growth potential. Companies must be early-stage, which is defined as: 1) Less than $250,000 of outside cash investment and 2) Less than $500,000 cumulative revenue, excluding research grants.

Need a little helping tuning up your plan? All participants benefit from the series of four workshops that begin on March 18th. (These are also open to the general public at a cost of $35 each.) Contest registration ends on April 3rd (there's a $150 entry fee), executive summary submissions are due by April 6th, and full business plans are due by April 20th. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges prior to the Luncheon. Applications and Contest Guidelines are available online.

We're looking forward to seeing the great ideas and business plans that we know many of you are working on - and we encourage the rest of the gang to mark your calendars now to attend the Celebration of Entrepreneurship gala luncheon on May 15th! We’ll see you there!

Contributed by Greg Taylor, Excelsior Search Partners

The LinkedIn Group is a subset of The August Group and there is an approval process.  This group serves the savvier networker, the professional who relies on networking not just in times of job search but engages in it in an ongoing manner offering leads and contacts readily.  It's a participatory group that engages in all the benefits listed below.
  • You're looking for work and you seek contacts in target companies or industries you wish to explore.
  • You wish to post a job immediately.

  • Your company has great to news to announce and you wish to share it

Connecting with other August Group members within the LinkedIn Group:

You need not know the email address of August Group LinkedIn members to send them a message or an invitation although it is advisable to send them a message prior to sending an invitation.  Your message might request a meeting or arrange a phone call to discover how you can assist each other in growing your networks or offering support.

The Approval Process - 2 requirements:

First:  All members must be registered with The August Group.  This is an easy process and requires simply attending events sponsored by The August Group - general sessions at The Bagel Bin, St. Cecilia's, Power Networking Groups or our monthly social get together at Johnny's Irish Pub.  See the calendar for details at our website.  Next social event is March 18th.  Last month almost 100 gathered to exchange business cards.

Second:  All members must achieve 100 LinkedIn connections.  We admit members conditionally after they have achieved 50 connections.  Members then have 60 days to connect with the existing members and others in their network to achieve the 100 threshold.  If the 100 is not achieved within two months, they can re-apply when having reached the objective
